3 days at the German Church School
in Addis Abeba, 22.02. - 24.02.2000

Experiences of an "onlooker"
yard My journey to Ethiopia was scheduled for February 18 through March 6, 2000. I had arranged that I might spend three days of my visit observing in the German Church School (GCS). For this arrangement I contacted Mrs. Sabine Peter, staff member of the German speaking church in Addis Abeba, and with Ato Teklu Tafesse principal of the school. In that way I would receive a better picture of the work of the school and also become a person in Germany with the most accurate and current knowledge of the school and thereby be able to find more support for the school.

I thank Ato Teklu and Mrs. Peters, as well as Pastor Krause who succeeded Pastor Veddeler during the February 6, 2000 church service, for their friendly and unofficial kindness with regards to my request. To say least, my days at the school were a pleasant, fulfilling and moving experience.

I wish to thank Mr. Richard H. Schellhardt, Nashville, TN (USA) and Helen M. Knuttel, Alta Loma, CA (USA) whom did a great job by doing the translation of this report.

    These have been extremely cheerful, interesting, instructive and informative days!
    The communion with the students and teachers has moved me deeply. The kindness and frankness which was offered me, and the sincerity and human warmth were very good for me.

    With great delight I have experienced what an unusual opportunity the school offers to their students to improve their lives. The school is like a bright beacon on a dark night. May it glow continually and ever brighter!
