"Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me."
(Matthew 18, 5)
For those who wish to support the work of the school there are several opportunities:
-
You can sponsor a child for the sum of $25.00 per month. This sponsorship is administered directly by the school. Personal contact with the child being sponsored is expressly desired. There are staff members who will translate letters.
- You can participate in a project sponsorship. Details can be obtained from the school.
- You can sponsor the work of the school at any time for any subject.
Many people ask: what happens to their donation?
- The school has a small administrative expense of about 4% since there are no intervening organizations to consume part of the donation for their own administrative costs.
- Advertising of the school is essentially through promotion by the supporters. There are some relief organizations that spend up to 40 percent of their earnings on fund raising activities, but ordinarily only up to 15% are respectable. The school budgets a maximum of 15 percent of their earnings for that purpose with the balance going to direct support of school programs.
- · It is fortunate that the school has a bank account in Germany! You can transfer your donations to this account thus saving the considerable cost of foreign transfer.
- Four times a year the school transfers money from the German account to the school in Addis. That has several advantages:
- 1. The interest earned in Germany covers the cost of the foreign transfer fees.
2. Purchasing power of the funds is largely protected from the inflation in Ethiopia.
3. The school only transfers the amount of funds that are needed for current expenses. Remaining funds are thus protected from any other possible losses in addition to the one mentioned in point 2.
- The Church Council of the German speaking community audits the school to verify effective accounting methods and proper use of funds.
What concrete help does the school need?
-
1. Money for the library for the purchase of more books including the lower grades. Spending for books is well directed but can only be accomplished with the approval of staff members.
- 2. The clinic needs continuous support. Medicines are always needed and expensive. A larger sterilizer is needed to accommodate bigger medical equipment. (This was provided with the help of our church congregations in Stendal, Germany).
- 3. Funds for the daily meals of the students. The recently established meal program has become vital to the care of the students and therefor needs our support.
- 4. Funds for the purchase of supplies and equipment for the Handwork Room.
- 5. Funds to augment the equipment in the chemistry, biology and physics laboratories. At present there are only a few teaching aids available.
- 6. Money for the emergency relief fund. From this fund aid is given to children who have no Foster-parents so far or those who have gotten into difficulty.
- 7. Although seemingly less attractive, the school needs general donations. We all know that effective administration can not exist without management costs.
- 8. Beside all the materialistic help, the school needs your prayers! Even if the school would have all the necessary money, nevertheless, there are a lot of political and social facts within the country the work of the school depends on.
Respectfully, Pastor Gerhard Reuther
